Golazo Football Kura
‘The youth who are already attending our informal coaching sessions are telling us that they love to learn in the Latin American style and they are encouraging us to continue coaching in this way.
We plan to start a Latin American Football Kura for former refugee and migrant youth in Nelson. We will run this kura on a Saturday morning all year round during the school terms. While our focus will be on Colombian youth, and due to demand we would also invite other former refugee and migrant youth as we believe this a great way of connecting those youth and helping them to have a sense of fitting in to New Zealand and into our Nelson community.
The purpose is to engage the youth in sport and active recreation, helping them to have a healthy lifestyle, a feeling of belonging, connecting diverging former refugee communities together, peer to peer interaction and also prevent /reduce harm from alcohol and other drugs which has been identified as an issue by parents and elders in the community.’
