Shared Communities Initiative
The aim of Shared Communities Initiative is to find ways and opportunities that enable migrant and former refugee communities to practice, share, celebrate and create their own arts, culture and heritage activities in Whakatū.
The need for this initiative came from the Shared Communities- Whakatū Nelson - Arts, Culture and Heritage- Engagement with Nelson Migrant and former Refugee Communities Report - August 2022, Funded by Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
We plan to deliver recommendations from this engagement document and enable former refugee and migrant communities in Whakatū Nelson to deliver their own programmes /projects.
This initiative aims to:
Improve sustainability and resilience of the arts, culture and heritage sectors
Improve access and participation in the arts culture and heritage sectors
Increase the use of arts, culture and heritage as a tool for wellbeing
