Naomi Azoulay Workshop

‘An accessible and inclusive workshop at no cost for participants, exploring identity through collage in response to the portrait exhibition of visiting artist Naomi Azoulay. Where Are You From? Often, when encountering someone from a different ethnicity, the question “Where are you from?" is posed with the assumption of a singular origin. However, the reality is far more nuanced, with individuals carrying multifaceted backgrounds and experiences.

Naomi has run similar successful workshops for diverse community groups in Auckland | Tāmaki Makaurau

The project was very well received by those attending and brought up valuable discussion points that were quite emotional at times. Tapping into intuition to reflect upon heritage and the journey we take to get to where we are. The workshop was a great example of the assumptions that are made when asked the question where are you from? The facilitator is born in Israel - Palestine with Arabic heritage and some of the attendees were from Palestine. There was some misunderstanding to begin with that Naomi the facilitator managed to navigate with grace and humility. Most of the workshop attendees finished sooner than anticipated with the need to get to work and transport considerations. Over all it was a valuable learning experience for everyone involved.’ - Janja Heathfield
